India, a union of states, is a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, and Democratic Republic with a Parliamentary system of Government. India is divided into twenty-eight states and seven union territories (UTs). The President is the Charter head of Executive of the Union. The Governor, as the representative of the President, is the head of the state. Union Territories are governed by the President of India through a Bureaucrat appointed by him or her.
