How to make Chole Bhature – Indian Recipe

Indian Chole Bhature Recipe: Chole bhatura are the popular food snack in Northern part of India. The soft and spongy Bhatures with Chole is a great combination altogether. It is one of the very popular street foods of India.It is known as the heavy breakfast. It’s a mouthwatering dish that originated in Punjab. There are different varieties of bhatura available in the market such as aloo bhatura, paneer bhatura etc and are served with onion and achar.

We can make Chole bhatura easily at home. Let us see how we can prepare the dish easily.

Preparation time – 1 1/2 hour
Cooking time- 15-20 minutes
Serving- 6 to 8people

Ingredients for making Chole bhature:

For Bhatures:
2 cups flour (Maida)
1 cup of oil to deep fry the bhaturas
Pinch of eating soda
2 slices of bread
1 pouch Yeast
Salt according to taste

For Chole:

3 cups of Chole (chickpeas)
2 medium sized onion, finely chopped
1 big tomato
2 tbps curd
½ tsp of ginger paste
4 tbsp of oil
Salt to taste
6-7 mint leaves
1 tbps mango powder (amchur)
2 pieces clove
½ tsp garam masala
½ tsp of chili powder
2-3 bay leaves
1½ cups of water
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 Green chillies (chopped)

Procedure for preparing

Bhatura
a) Take yeast and soak in warm water for 5-10 minutes
b) Mix flour, vegetable oil, eating soda, salt, 2 slices of bread, and mix that prepared ingredient well and make it soft dough like for chapattis.
c) Keep this dough for 2-3 hours
d) Make small balls of that dough and make them in the form of puris.
e) Then heat the pan put oil in it and put those puris. Cook them until they become bit reddish on both the sides.

Chole
a) Soak Chole in the water for the whole night
b) Take a pressure cooker and Chole into it.
c) Lid the pressure cooker and wait for 4-5 whistles or cook for 15-20 minutes.
d) On the other side take a pan add 2 table spoons of oil in it
e) Add onion, bay leaves into it and fry until it turns dark brown
f) Then mix tomato, ginger paste and curd and cook it well until it becomes a thick paste.
g) Add garam masala, salt, chilly powder, clove, mango powder and other ingredients with water into it.
h) Then add this mixture to the boiled Chole and close the cooker and cook it for sometime.
i) You can even mash some Chole by pressing them with spatula to make the curry thick or you can add some water into it if paste is too dry.
j) Serve cooked Chole in a bowl and garnish them with onion and lemon or green chillies on it to make it tastier.

It’s really easy to make Chole and the family members would enjoy this dish any time. Even kids would like to eat chole whether they are hungry or not.
